Notes from the coaching staff

MHS Athletic Director Pat Ruggiero is pleased to announce the appointment of Jason Shipulski as Head Coach of the Melrose Red Raider Varsity Hockey Team. Shipulski is a graduate of UNH played for Coach Dick Umile who also has strong ties to Melrose's hockey history. Most recently he had been an Assistant Coach for the Woburn Tanners (Middlesex League) who have advanced deep into the state tournaments in the past few years. Jason will bring along experienced Assistant Coaches in Anthony Luisi, Rob O'Leary, and Jim Diozzi to the Red Raider program.

Jason Shipulski - Head Coach

  • 30 years of age

  • Resides in Melrose with wife Kristy

  • Graduated from UNH

  • Played Hockey East for UNH and was on two regular season championship teams

  • Played in the 1999 Men’s College Hockey “Frozen Four” National Championship Game in Anaheim vs Maine Blackbears

  • Played minor pro hockey for the Danbury Trashers (UHL) and Roanoke Express (ECHL)

  • Was Assistant Coach for Woburn (Middlesex League) from 2004-2007. Team went on to play in two (2) state title games at TD Banknorth Garden.

  •  Was an Assistant Coach for Austin Prep for one season

  • Currently a Special Education Teacher a Woburn High School

 

Anthony Luisi – Assistant Coach

  • 42 years of age

  • Resides in Georgetown with his wife and two (2) children

  • High School Hockey @Christopher Columbus High School (Catholic Conference) – Team Captain

  • Played for University of Massachusetts for one (1) year

  • Played for the USA International Hockey Team 1987 and won silver medal - Team Captain

  • Was Assistant Coach for Woburn (Middlesex League) from 2004-2007. Team went on to play in two (2) state title games at TD Banknorth Garden.


Rob O’Leary – Assistant Coach

  • 30 years of age

  • Attended New England College – four (4) years

  • Lead Defensemen in scoring in Division 3 scoring in 1999

  • Coached at Winthrop High School from 2004-2007

  • Employed as Teacher for Winthrop


Jim Diozzi – Junior Varsity Coach

  • 31 years of age

  • Played Hockey for Western New England College

  • Coached the Woburn High School Junior Varsity Hockey Team.
